Food Establishment and Lodging Inspections conducted in Saline County by the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Division of Food Safety and Lodging from September 18 through September 25, 2021.

BISHOP STREET TAVERN, 717 BISHOP STREET (SEPT. 20) ROUTINE INSPECTION

  • No Violations.
CAROL LEE DONUTS, 1700 S. 9TH (SEPT. 22) ROUTINE INSPECTION
  • Packaged Capri Sun beverage for self-service in dining area reach-in cooler was not labeled for individual sale. Corrected on site: taped box label to cooler.
  • Cartons of raw shell eggs was stored on wire shelving above open gallon of milk in Cola reach-in cooler and over open container of oleo and jalapeno sausages in Pepsi reach-in cooler. Corrected on site: moved eggs to bottom shelving. No leakage detected.
  • A bowl without a handle was stored inside the sugar bin under the dough table.
  • A partial carton of raw shell eggs was stored on the scale in the kitchen at an ambient temperature of 73 degrees F. Per person in charge, the eggs had been out of cooler for one hour on day of inspection. Corrected on site: returned to the cooler.   • No written procedure available for using Time as Public Health Control available to regulatory authority.
  • Croissant sandwich and biscuit sandwiches were not marked with time removed for temperature control. Corrected on site: marked 8 a.m. Kolaches and sausages in pastry not marked with time removed from temperature control. Corrected in site: marked 7 a.m.
  • Small measuring cup stored above east prep area was melted and disfigured. Corrected on site: disposed of measuring cup.
  • One in use flat spatula had UPC code sticker still on the blade. Corrected on site: removed sticker and moved to warewashing.
  • Fan next to dough making area was full of dust.
  • There was no hot water connected to the west wall handwashing sink.
  • The west wall handwashing sink was not connected to the sewage line, there was a bucket placed below the sink to catch water.
  • Can of aerosol oven cleaner was stored on counter with flavoring and coffee maker. Corrected on site: moved to chemical storage.
  • Notice of non-compliance with Kansas Law issued. Follow up inspection scheduled for October 25, 2021.
CORONADO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, 2725 RAY AVENUE (SEPT. 20) ROUTINE INSPECTION
  • No Violations.
COTTONWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, 215 S. PHILLIPS (SEPT. 20) ROUTINE INSPECTION
  • No Violations.
COUNTRY INN & SUITES, 2760 S. 9TH (SEPT. 20) EXPIRED LICENSE INSPECTION
  • Glass containers of cinnamon, blueberries and strawberries for self service on breakfast bar were not covered or shielded for protection. Corrected on site: removed from breakfast bar until containers could be covered.
  • On the breakfast bar, a bowl of fruit mix with cut melon had a temperature of 61 degrees F, real butter in individual packages had a temperature of 79 degrees F, cream cheese in individual packages had temperature of 97 degrees F, bowl of yogurt has a temperature of 68 degrees F, cheese stick had a temperature of 72 degrees F. Temperatures taken at 9:10 a.m. on day of inspection. Per employee, items were put out at 5 a.m. Corrected on site: voluntary destruction.   • Zip type bag of omelets, zip bag of sausage links and an open gallon of milk inside upright black Maytag reach-in cooler were not date marked. Corrected on site: dated omelets and sausage links September 19 to September 25 and milk dated September 19 to September 24. Provided Date Marking Handout for Risk Factor Intervention Strategy.
  • No quaternary ammonia test strips available.
  • No hand drying provisions at handwashing sink. Corrected on site: supplied with paper towels.
  • Operating without a license. Corrected on site: paid fees on line during inspection.
  • Notice of non-compliance with Kansas Law issued. Follow up inspection scheduled for September 30, 2021.
DOMINO'S PIZZA, 1621 S. OHIO (SEPT. 22) LICENSING INSPECTION
  • Two in use plastic lids on pizza toppings inside refrigerated prep table bottom cooler were cracked and not easily cleanable. Corrected on site: disposed of lids.
  • Pizza and marinara sauce not marked with time removed from temperature. Corrected on site: marked 10:30 removed.
  • Food Establishment field warning letter issued. Future inspections will be initiated during the next routine inspection cycle, unless complaint is received about the food establishment.
ELL-SALINE HIGH SCHOOL, 414 E. ANDERSON, BROOKVILLE (SEPT. 21) ROUTINE INSPECTION
  • Dry oatmeal and dry rice stored inside Sterilite container and unknown brand of tote type containers not intended for food. Corrected on site: moved to food grade bags and placed in container.
  • Food Establishment field warning letter issued. Future inspections will be initiated during the next routine inspection cycle, unless complaint is received about the food establishment.
FREE BIRD COFFEE COMPANY, 739 ALBERT (SEPT. 25) FIRST OPERATIONAL INSPECTION AFTER LICENSING
  • Using cloth towel for hand drying. Corrected on site: purchased paper towels to use for hand drying.
MATTIE'S GRILL AND CHILL, 640 WESTPORT (SEPT. 21) EXPIRED LICENSE INSPECTION
  • Spray bottle of pink liquid on shelf above handwashing sink was not labeled with common name. Corrected on site: labeled as sanitizer.
  • Operating without a valid license. Paid via phone prior to inspection.
MEADOWLARK RIDGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, 2200 GLEN AVENUE (SEPT. 22) ROUTINE INSPECTION
  • No Violations.
PALETERIA LA NENA, 1118 W. CLOUD (SEPT. 23) ROUTINE INSPECTION
  • In a glass front two door cooler near the entrance, the labels on the packages of flan, choco-flan, tres leches cake, cheesecake, and marble jello did not include an ingredients list or allergen statement. Corrected on site: KDA Inspector 134 asked staff to post an allergen statement for these desserts. KDA Inspector 134 and staff discussed what the top eight allergens were, and which dessert had which allergens in it. Unfortunately there were no original, commercial packages available to review at the time of the follow up inspection to confirm. KDA Inspector 134 explained to staff that next time they purchase these desserts, they need to review the ingredients label and record which of the eight major allergens the products contain, so they can provide their customers with accurate information. Facility returned to routine status.

PARAMOUNT BAR, 219 N. SANTA FE (SEPT. 20) EXPIRED LICENSE INSPECTION
  • Open container of real whipping cream inside bar reach-in cooler was not date marked. Corrected on site: dated September 17 to September 23. Provided Date Marking Handout for Risk Factor Intervention Strategy.
  • No detectable sanitizer in sanitizing vat with a cutting board. Corrected on site: added another tablet and tested at 200 ppm quaternary ammonia.
  • No paper towels or other hand drying provisions at the bar area handwashing sink. Corrected on Site (COS) Supplied with paper towels.
  • Food Establishment field warning letter issued. Future inspections will be initiated during the next routine inspection cycle, unless complaint is received about the food establishment.
ROBBY'S FAMOUS CHEESECAKES, 1809 S. OHIO (SEPT. 23) FIRST OPERATIONAL INSPECTION AFTER LICENSING
  • There were no sanitizer concentration test strips on site at the time of the inspection. Not corrected on site, a warning letter was issued rather than a notice of non-compliance as the solution staff prepared during the inspection tested within a food contact-surface-safe range. KDA Inspector 134 asked staff to send a picture via email or text messaging of the strips once they arrive.
  • Food Processing Plant field warning letter issued. Future inspections will be initiated during the next routine inspection cycle, unless complaint is received about the facility.
SACRED HEART HIGH SCHOOL, 234 E. CLOUD (SEPT. 22) ROUTINE INSPECTION)
  • Hose attached to faucet of food prep sink was hanging below the flood rim of the sink. Corrected on site: hung hose above flood rim.
