UPDATE: Kidnapping Suspect Arrested in Salina Monday

Matthew Collier

UPDATE: Salina Police have arrested a man wanted in connection with kidnapping two women last week.

Police say Matthew Collier, 30, was taken into custody at the Chapel Ridge Apartment Complex, 2363 Chapel Ridge, at about 8 p.m. Monday. He surrendered peacefully.

According to an earlier media release, Collier was being sought in connection with an incident at a south Salina home in which two women were allegedly kidnapping two women at gunpoint just before 8:30 p.m. last Wednesday. The two women were safely returned unharmed several hours later, but Collier had fled the area. According to police, Collier is alleged to have stolen a shotgun during the incident and pointed it at the female victims. The shotgun has not been recovered.

Police said Tuesday that an investigation led them to the Chapel Apartments Monday evening. With the assistance of the Kansas Highway Patrol’s SWAT team, Collier was arrested without incident.

According to Saline County records, Collier was booked into jail late Monday night on several requested charges including two counts of aggravated assault, battery, criminal damage to property, two counts of criminal restraint, two counts of criminal threats, domestic battery, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal discharge of a firearm, two counts of aggravated kidnapping, four counts of robbery, theft of a firearm and misdemeanor theft.

Collier was serving parole in Salina for an attempted homicide that occurred in the state of California in 2006. He served eight years in prison before he was paroled in June 2016. He was serving his parole in Kansas as part of an agreement with the state of California. An absconder warrant was issued from the California Department of Corrections for Collier’s arrest.

The new charges filed against Collier in Kansas will violate the terms of his California parole, according to police.

Police say the female victims were returned to the residence safe and unharmed several hours after the initial report was received.
