UPDATE: Four Hospitalized After Wednesday Accident South of Salina

UPDATE: Four people were hospitalized after a two vehicle accident south of Salina Wednesday afternoon.

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office said the accident, which occurred just before 2 p.m., happened at K-4 Highway and Old Highway 81, just west of Bridgeport.

The Sheriff’s Office said Laura Cates, 49, of Assaria, was westbound in a 2011 Ford Fusion and failed to yield at the intersection. She was struck by a 1999 Chevy pickup driven by Udena McKee, 81, of Falun. Both vehicles came to rest in a ditch, both sustaining extensive damage.

McKee was transported to Salina Regional Health Center with facial injuries. Cates was also taken to the hospital with an eye injury and possible broken ribs. Two small children, ages 3 and 7 inside Cates’ vehicle, were also taken to the hospital for possible leg and rib injuries.

Occupant of both vehicles were said to be properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency crews were sent to an injury accident south of Salina, near the town of Bridgeport, just before 2 p.m.

Initial reports indicate the accident, which occurred where Old Highway 81 becomes K-4 Highway, just west of Bridgeport, involved multiple vehicles.

Medics have transported at least three people to Salina Regional Health Center with significant injuries.
