Sections of Two County Roads Reopened

Saline County officials have announced the reopening of two county roads on Thursday following the completion of two road works projects.

Muir Road, from Armstrong Road to State Street, has been reopened following removal of an existing culvert pipe by a Saline County Road and Bridge Department crew. The pipe was located immediately south of the Muir Road/Armstrong Road intersection.

Niles Road, from Cloud Street to Magnolia Road, will be reopened late Thursday following completion ahead of schedule of the construction of a new reinforced concrete box (RCB) drainage structure which replaces an existing deteriorated drainage structure. The structure is located on Niles Road, approximately 0.4 mile north of Magnolia Road.

Saline County opened bids on the 2016 Reinforced Concrete Box (RCB) Package on June 30, 2016. This project consists of the replacement of nine existing drainage structures with new reinforced concrete box culverts. The low bidder was Reece Construction Company, Inc. of Scandia, Kansas. They were awarded a contract for $614,614.16. The project is funded from the 2-mil fund for bridge and culvert replacement. This particular box culvert is ninth of the nine to be replaced.

The section of Niles Road was closed to accommodate the work on March 15th. The effected section of Muir Road was closed on Monday.
