Saline County Food Establishment and Lodging Inspections, April 15-21, 2017

Food Establishment and Lodging Inspections conducted in Saline County by the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Division of Food Safety and Lodging from April 15 through April 21, 2017.

Food safety and lodging inspections are unannounced, and inspection results represent only those conditions found in the establishment at the time of the inspection.

Big Nose Kate’s, 121 N. Santa Fe Ave. (April 19) Routine Inspection
– Case of solo cups setting directly on floor in back store room. Corrected on site: moved off of floor.
– Interior divider of ice machine has accumulation of mold.
– Pop dispensing closet has syrup on floor and walls.
– Leaking box of soap stored on shelf above case of peppermint candies, no soap on candies. Corrected on site: moved candies to food storage shelf.
– No paper towels or other hand drying provisions at bar handwashing sinks. Corrected on site: supplied with paper napkins. Per person in charge, manager is picking up paper towels at the store on day of inspection.

Brooklyn Boyz Pizzeria, 2259 S. 9th St. #150 (April 19) Complaint Inspection
– Light above pizza make table not shielded or protected.
– No paper towels or other hand drying provisions at front or back handwashing sink. Corrected on site: supplied with paper napkins while co-worker went to purchase paper towels.
– No thermometer inside pizza make table reach-in cooler. Corrected on site: installed thermometer.
– Interior divider has accumulation of mold.
– Spray bottle of blue liquid labeled sanitizer setting on shelf above case of single use plastic forks. Corrected on site: moved to chemical storage.
– Pizza and calzones not marked with time removed from oven. Corrected on site: marked 11 a.m.
– Can opener blade covered in dried on food debris. Not used today, per person in charge. Corrected on site: moved to warewashing.
– No soap available at front handwashing sink. Corrected on site: filled soap dispenser.
– Case of pizza boxes setting directly on floor in center room. Corrected on site: moved off of floor.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard, 2420 S. 9th St. (April 18) Follow Up Inspection
– Stainless pans stored as clean were nested together with water between pans. Corrected on site: unnested pans to allow for air drying. There is a sign posted to dry prior to nesting pans.

Genesis Health Clubs, 1830 S. 9th St. (April 21) Routine Inspection
– Case of cups and lids setting directly on floor in back storage room.

Korner Store, 220 W. Crawford St. (April 19) First Operational Inspection After Licensing
– Lights above microwave, slush machine, coffee area and inside walk-in cooler not shielded or protected.
– Pouches of Kool-Aid inside retail door of walk-in cooler not labeled for individual sale and no ingredients on packaging.
– Cases of bagged tea mix and sausage egg biscuits setting directly on floor in walk-in cooler.
– Case of single use cups setting directly on floor in back storage room.
– Hot water heater drip line is draining into east vat of warewashing sink.
– Light inside walk-in cooler not working.
– Three compartment sink has one divider removed and is now a two compartment sink. Will use two dish tubs until three vat sink is installed or repaired.

Russell’s Restaurant, 649 Westport Blvd. (April 18) Follow Up Inspection
– Floor in men’s employee toilet room in ill repair. Person in charge says contractor has been hired to replace floor.

Salina Country Club, 2101 Country Club Rd. (April 18) Follow Up Inspection
– Mascarpone cheese inside west walk-in cooler not date marked when opened. Corrected on site: dated opened April 17.
– Cream cheese inside west walk-in cooler dated April 15 through April 22 or 8 days. Corrected on site: dated April 15 through 21.
– Cooked shrimp dated March 13 through March 21 or 9 days. Corrected on site: Per person in charge, misdated was made Sunday April 14, redated April 14 through April 21. Repeat Violation.
– Unopened and thawed reduced oxygen packaged fish stored inside ice bath inside south walk-in cooler since the evening of April 16. Corrected on site: opened package.
– Notice of non-compliance issued. Follow up inspection scheduled for June 19.

Salina Nutrition, 2075 S. Ohio St. (April 19) First Operational Inspection After Licensing
– Unwrapped straws dispensed via storage container by the consumer.
– Measuring spoons stored inside powdered drink mix with handles touching the mix.
– Single use cups and lids setting directly on floor in basement storage area.
– Hand lotion stored on shelf above single use cups in prep area. Hat and phone setting on prep area counter top. Corrected on site: moved to office.
– BenGay compress stored on shelf above single use cups. Corrected on site: moved to office.

Sunset Billiards, 1215 W. Crawford St. (April 19) Routine Inspection
– Open half gallon of half and half not date marked. Corrected on site: dated opened April 16.
– Interior divider of ice machine has accumulation of mold.
– Hose attached to four way splitter downstream from backflow device was hanging below the flood rim of the mop sink. Corrected on site: raised hose above flood rim of mop sink.
– Back room floor covered in dirt and debris.
– Bottle of finger nail polish remover stored on counter above west ice bin. Corrected on site: moved to personal storage.
