Salina Man Arrested in Connection With Alleged Truck Theft

William Schiffbauer

A Salina man is in custody after allegedly stealing a truck early Friday morning.

Authorities say William Schiffbauer, 44, drove a 2003 Chevy Silverado off the lot at Salina Concrete, 1100 W. Ash, sometime between 6:30 and 7 a.m. The keys had been left inside.

A family member of Schiffbauer’s notified police after he arrived at his home in the 1000 block of N. 9th with the truck. Police say Schiffbauer appeared to be under the influence of drugs when he was taken into custody at about 7:15 a.m.

The truck, which was recovered at Schiffbauer’s residence, is owned by Lorin Gawith and is valued at $5,000.

At the time of his arrest, Schiffbauer was being sought by authorities on an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear for possession and trafficking of opiates.

He now faces an additional requested charge of felony theft in connection with the stolen truck, according to police.
