The Kansas Highway Patrol said Barbara Camara, 30, of Hays, was northbound in a 2008 Chevy Malibu on Interstate 135 at about 8:50 p.m., when a deer came out of the ditch near mile post 47, about 1 mile north of Moundridge. Camara’s vehicle struck the deer when it came onto the roadway.

Camara, and an occupant of the vehicle, Marcel Miasato, 19, of Hays, were not injured. Another occupant of the vehicle, Larissa Fagundes, 20, of Hays, was taken to McPherson Hospital for treatment of possible injuries.

All three were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, according to the Highway Patrol.
