Liberty Set for Rematch Against Rival Dodge City

The Salina Liberty will travel to Dodge City on Saturday looking for their first win of the season in a rematch with the rival Law.

This game comes just one week after Dodge City escaped Salina’s Tony’s Pizza Events Center with a narrow 34-32 win, moving the Law to 3-0 on the season. With the loss, the Liberty dropped to 0-3

Dodge City withstood a late Liberty rally last week. The Law led 34-14 with 6:39 to go in the 4th Quarter, but the Liberty fought back with two Joshua Floyd touchdown passes and a fumble return for a touchdown by Isiah Barfield to cut the deficit to 34-32. Salina failed to convert two extra point kicks and a two point conversion and as a result, the rally fell short.

Another key factor in the loss was missed field goals. Kicker Pete Smith, who filled in for regular kicker Drew O’Brien, was for 0 for 3 on the night. O’Brien returns to the lineup for the Liberty this week, Smith has been released.

Also joining the Liberty lineup this week is linebacker Carl Fleming. A native of Reisterstown, Maryland, Fleming played collegiately at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Fleming spent the 2016 season in the National Arena League, starting for the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, where he also played defensive line.

Kickoff is set for 6:35 p.m. Saturday night at United Wireless Arena in Dodge City. If you can’t make the drive, Buffalo Wild Wings, 2580 S. 9th, will be hosting a watch party or you can watch live online on Eversport by clicking here.
